Apparently, I had something to say about time on Sunday.
And then Tuesday came.
And went.
And here we are on Wednesday.
I had every intention of getting this week’s blog written and posted on Tuesday, just like I usually do. But after getting home from work, there was dinner, things to pick up around the house, the dogs to take care of and the cat to feed.
And somewhere in the middle of all of that, I realized something:
There just aren’t always enough hours in the day to do everything!
This season of life has me trying to juggle quite a few things. I’m working my regular job, picking up extra work, keeping up with our home, tending to the garden and chickens, working on Rooted in This Chapter, trying to run a book club, and trying to make some intentional changes in our lives.
We’re also working toward some bigger financial goals. We’re trying to be more intentional about our money, pay down debt, and create a little more breathing room for the future.
I’m excited about those goals.
I’m also learning that reaching them doesn’t mean I have to accomplish everything all at once.
Sometimes I think we make ourselves believe that if we’re really committed to something, we should be able to fit it all in. Work harder. Get up earlier. Stay up later. Just squeeze one more thing into the day.
But there are only so many hours.
And there is only so much of me.
So I’m learning to ask myself a different question:
What actually needs to get done today?
Some things matter more than others.
Some things can wait.
The laundry isn’t going anywhere. The dishes will still be there tomorrow. The blog can be a day late. The garden will survive if I don’t get to one more thing. And the house doesn’t have to be perfectly picked up every night.
But the people and animals I love need me.
So, at the end of the day, when I finally crawl into bed, I remind myself of what really matters.
My kids are healthy.
We are healthy.
The dogs are taken care of.
The cat is taken care of.
The chickens are taken care of.
We’re good.
And if those things are true, then maybe everything else can wait until tomorrow.
That’s the part I’m still learning in this chapter.
Giving myself permission to leave some things unfinished doesn’t mean I’m not trying. It doesn’t mean I’ve lost focus on the goals we’re working toward. And it certainly doesn’t mean I’m giving up.
It just means I’m human.
There will be days when I get everything done.
There will be days when I get half of it done.
And apparently, there will be weeks when Tuesday’s blog becomes Wednesday’s blog.
Maybe that’s okay.
Because this chapter isn’t about doing everything perfectly. It’s about figuring out what matters, making room for the things that do, and giving ourselves a little grace when life doesn’t fit neatly into the schedule we made for it.
So today, I’m choosing to remember that time doesn’t have to be something I constantly chase.
Sometimes I just need to use the time I have, do what I can, and let the rest wait.
And tomorrow is another day.
Thanks for being here. I’m glad you stopped by!
